'A very warm welcome to Mount Carmel Catholic School's website. At the heart of Mount Carmel is our very strong Catholic Ethos. We aim for every child to leave here as an ambassador of Christ. Working parallel to this is our drive for high standards. Through creating a supportive and nurturing school, children really have a passion for learning. We hope you feel this from looking around our website.'

YEAR 6 ISLE OF WIGHT TRIP - OCT 17

FRIDAY 6TH OCTOBER

The final evening of a wonderful week kicked off with a good ol' sing-along for Emily, Archie and Francis' birthdays. The children then got their dancing shoes on for a boogie in the disco - not sure who enjoyed it more: the teachers or the children!

Another gloriously sunny day for our last day on the island. 'Fencing' and 'Orienteering' were the order of the day, with one group left to experience the terror of the 'Giant Swing'.

The PGL staff praised the children for their great sense of teamwork during the week, and every child was grinning from ear to ear on the coach home. A fantastic week all round.

THURSDAY 5TH OCTOBER

The children had great fun last night running wacky races and woke up this morning to yet another cracking day, both weather and activity-wise. Today, they were throwing themselves backwards down the 'Zip Wire', working as a team 'Problem Solving', practising their target hitting skills in 'Archery' and a favourite with both children and teachers - 'Sensory Trail' (though for different reasons!), where the children are blindfolded and taken through a 'treacherous' obstacle course. They are now showered and gearing up for the highlight of the week, the disco. The excitement is reaching fever pitch!

WEDNESDAY 4TH OCTOBER

The children were as quiet as mice after lights out last night - a sure sign of a good day's fun finished off with a great campfire and toasted marshmallows. Today has been another glorious day weather-wise and the exhilarating activities have continued. The children have made us so proud by facing their fears and taking the plunge on the 'Giant Swing', or hanging over the top of the tower in 'Abseiling' - some have been so chuffed with themselves after initially saying they would not have a go. We have seen some real naturals out on the quad bikes and 'Aeroball' is always a winner with the children. Tonight is 'Wacky Races' which should run off that last bit of energy before bedtime.

TUESDAY 3RD OCTOBER

After a rainy evening last night, the sun was shining brightly today - a perfect day for hanging off ropes and crawling through tunnels!  The children settled quickly last night after a great game of 'Ambush', so were bright-eyed and ready for the day's activities.

It has been a jam-packed day of action with all groups rotating between working as a team climbing up 'Jacob's Ladder', solving puzzles to enter different rooms in 'The Matrix', which is a new activity the children loved, crawling through a warren of underground tunnels in 'Tunnel Trail', throwing themselves off podiums onto 'Trapeze' bars, and perfecting their attacking skills in 'Fencing'.

Off to get ready for marshmallows and a sing-along around the campfire tonight.

MONDAY 2ND OCTOBER

A great start to our week away. The journey was quick and the children were singing all the way. They have settled in to their cabins well - some interesting variations on how to put on a bed sheet but we got there in the end!

Our PGL leaders are full of life and the children are LOVING this place, especially their cabins.

We have just finished dinner - most had good old sausage and mash, and now they are all back at the cabins kitting up for a great game of Ambush in the woods. Brilliant fun!
