Dear Nursery children,

What a busy week!

This weekend I would like you to share the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' with your grown-ups at home. Use the picture to help you to tell the story. You can cut them out if you need to.

Have a good weekend

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been thinking about friends. What is a friend? Who are your friends? Why are they your friends? What do you like to do with your friends? What makes a good friend?

Share this poem with your grown-up

Friends can play and friends can share,

Friends are kind and friends are fair,

Friends will surely talk to you,

When you're feeling sad and blue,

Friends are big and friends are small,

But good friends are best of all!

I wonder if you can draw a picture of your friends in your Home-Wow book. You can share this in class with us next week.

Have a good weekend

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have shared the story 'Beans on Toast'. What sound do you hear at the start of 'beans' and what sound do you hear at the start of 'toast'? Go on a Sound Hunt around your home for other objects that begin with the same sounds, 'b' and 't'.

Happy hunting

Dear Nursery children,

This week you have been given a piece of paper with 5 frogs on it. Your challenge is to cut out the frogs and tell a story/sing a song using the frogs.

In class we have been singing '5 speckled frogs', we have changed the words to '5 little ducks went swimming one day' to '5 little frogs went hopping one day'. We also changed the words of '5 little monkeys jumping on the bed' to '5 little frogs hopping on the bed' and a pike was introduced to another song '5 little frogs swinging in the trees, teasing Mr Pike, you can't catch me, along came Mr Pike snap, snap chew, leaving how many frogs, looking at you'.

You choose what you want to do with the frogs. Ask your grown-up to write down what story you tell/song you share.

Have fun

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been learning about the Life Cycle of a Frog. We have been so lucky to have the tadpoles in our classroom and we will keep watching them to see how they change, over the coming weeks.

Over the weekend I would like you to practice your scissor skills and cut out the photos of the frog Life Cycle, stick them into your Home-Wow Book and talk to your grown-ups about what you can see in each photo. I wonder if you could label the photos? What sounds can you hear in frog? Can you sound out tadpole? Give it a go...

Please can ALL Home-Wow Books be returned next Tuesday.

Have a great weekend

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been sharing the story Rosie's Walk. Can you remember what happened in the story? Rosie the hen went for a walk... in the story Rosie walked across a yard, around a pond, over a haystack, past a mill, through a fence, under some beehives and she got back in time for dinner. Who was following Rosie? It was the sneaky fox.

This weekend I want you to go for a walk, maybe outside or around your home. Pretend that you are Rosie the Hen or maybe you could pretend that you are the sneaky fox! What can you walk over? What do you go under? Do you go around anything on your walk? Do you walk through anything?  Grown-ups, please encourage the positional language.

Have fun on your walk and enjoy your day off on Monday

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been focusing on our careful counting. I wonder if this weekend you could sort out your socks and see how many you have? Maybe you could count your grown-ups socks and see if they have more or less than you. When you are counting you may find it easier if you line up the socks.  Remember to point at each sock as you say a number name.

I wonder what else you could count? How many spoons do you have? have you got any clocks in your home? If so, how many?

Maybe you could record in your Home-Wow Book what you counted and how many you found.

Happy counting

Dear Nursery children,

Well done for some fabulous Easter Bonnets today. You did a great job and you wore them well at the Easter Raffle.

Over the holidays your homework is to celebrate Easter. You have taken home the Easter Garden, that you made. I want you to talk to your grown-up about it and remember to change the ribbon to gold on Easter Sunday. Why do we change the ribbon to gold? What happens on Good Friday? Why is there a cross in your garden? You put a stone in your garden but why? Make sure you water the Pansy in your garden to help it to grow.

Have a lovely Easter and stay safe

Dear Nursery children,

This week you have not been given your Home-Wow Book. This week I would like you to be creative, with your grown-ups. I would like you to make an Easter Hat/Bonnet that you will be able to wear in school, next Friday, the last day of term. We will have a little parade and I'm sure that you will all make something wonderful. Do a little research online, with your grown-ups and see what you would like to make.

Happy making

Dear Nursery children,

I wonder if you can do some baking at home with your grown-ups? Use flour, like the Little Red Hen did and like you did with Mrs Barber when you made Soda Bread. Write down in your Home Wow book the ingredients that you used and the instructions that you followed. Ask your grown-up to write down what you say.

Have fun baking

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been waiting for our daffodils to bloom and we went to look for signs of spring around the school. New life is starting to bloom. When you are out and about have a look for more signs of Spring. Will you see any flowers starting to grow? Can you see any buds on the trees? Can you see any green shoots poking up through the soil?

Have fun looking but please remember that you can use your eyes to look at them, your nose to smell them but we don't pick the flowers. We have to leave them for everybody to enjoy.

Have a great weekend

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been sharing our favourite stories in Nursery. You know that I love books. There are so many wonderful books out there and we must really treasure and look after them. We learn lots when we share a book with our grown-ups.

Why don't you now try the 'Reading Star Challenge'? There is a set of challenges on the document below. Where will you read a book? What's the most unusual place that you will read  a book with your grown-up? I like to read in the bath but I have to be very careful that I don't drop the book in the water! I also have to look out for sharks, submarines and a tea set!

Happy reading

Some tips for when reading with your child

25th February 2022

Dear Nursery Children,

At Nursery we explored objects that float and sink when we put them into water. We looked for objects and made predictions about what we thought would happen before we put the object into the water. Can you do this at home? Look for objects and then find out if they float or sink?

Have fun exploring

Dear Nursery children,

It's the half term. We have a week off Nursery but what will you be doing? I'm going to see my family up North and I'm really looking forward to it. I like spending time with my family (even though it looks like there may be lots of rain!)

In your Home-Wow book maybe you could share some of the things that you get up to during your time off Nursery.

Please get plenty of rest, enjoy your time with your family and stay safe

Dear Nursery children,

This week we shared the story 'The Great Race' and we told the story using the small world animals. Can you remember what happened in the story?

Who came first? How did that animal get across the river? How did the rabbit get across the river? Why did the dragon not come first? What did the goat, monkey and rooster do to get across the river? Which animal came last? Share the story with your grown-ups. Remember that there are 12 animals in the story. (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig)

Dear Nursery children,

This weekend I want you to look for a photo of when your parents got married. Talk to your grown-up about this special day and how they celebrated. Where did they get married? Did they wear special clothes? Who celebrated with them? Was there music, singing or dancing? How did your grown-ups feel on this day? If your grown-ups haven't got a photo maybe they could show you photos of a wedding that you or they have attended.

Please bring the photo with you, next week. You could stick it in your Home-Wow Book or bring it in loose and we can copy it for you. We will be talking about this celebration on Wednesday.

Dear Children,

Yesterday, it was 12 days since we celebrated Christmas. This is known as the Epiphany. Can you remember what we celebrate on Christmas day? The birth of Baby Jesus, the Son of God.

Did you know that it took the Three Kings/Wisemen all of this time 12 days to travel on their camels to see Baby Jesus? That is such a long way! Can you remember what they followed? They followed a... STAR! They followed the star through deserts, across seas (on a boat with their camels), over mountains, through valleys, it would’ve been a long, hard journey but they kept on going. With them they had three gifts, very expensive gifts to give to the new baby can you remember what the gifts were?  Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Do you remember when we explored frankincense, we burned some and we said that the smell reminded us of church? We also explored essence of Myrrh. That had a strong smell too. We didn’t have any gold, unfortunately maybe your grown-ups have something made of the precious metal to show you.

If you could travel to baby Jesus what gift would you take to him? Maybe you could draw a picture of what you would give in your book.

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have been very busy decorating our classroom but there is one more job to do. We need to decorate our class Christmas tree, the one on the wall. At the moment it has a photo of each of you, wearing a festive hat and some plain baubles. This weekend your challenge is to make a decoration for our tree. Keep it small, hopefully we will have 20 to add! It's up to you to decide what you would like to make. It could be as simple as cutting out a bauble shape and colouring it in.

Have fun being creative,

Dear children,

Thank-you for sharing the leaves that you found on your leaf hunt. I hope that you had fun doing it.

This week we started to share the story Stick Man. This week can you go on a stick hunt and think of all the different things that you could do with a stick.

Please bring a stick into school, next week. When finding a stick please be careful and watch that you are not touching anybody with the stick.

Happy hunting

Hello Nursery children,

Thank-you so much for the wonderful Home-Wow that was completed, last week. It was lovely to see your Baptism photos and drawings. It's a very special celebration for you and your family and it's fantastic that you could talk about it with your grown-ups. I saw some wonderful candles, fonts with holy water, different Priests and lots of yummy looking cakes! I even spotted our very own Father Jim.

This week we have been learning about Autumn. We started the week by going on a Leaf Hunt in our school playground. I wonder if you could go on a Leaf Hunt over the weekend and find leaves that are different colours, sizes and shapes to the ones that we found?

We're going on a leaf hunt, we're going right away, lets find colourful leaves, what a wonderful day...

Dear Nursery children,

This week we have started to talk about celebrations. We celebrated Mr Troll's birthday and we learned about a festival of lights called Diwali. In your home wow book this week can you put a photo/draw a picture of a birthday that you have celebrated? What did you do? How did you celebrate? Did you have cake? Did you get any cards or presents? Did you have special food? It doesn't have to be your birthday it could be one of your grown-ups.

Dear Nursery children,

Give yourselves a big pat on the back for making it through your first half term. You have done really well.

This week take home your Home Wow book and share your half term news. I know that some of you are going away so maybe you could add a photo to your book and tell us a little bit about this, in your book. If your not going away tell us about something that you enjoyed doing.

Hello Nursery,

Welcome to the Home Learning page.

This week we have been talking about some eight legged creatures, that have eight eyes, hairy legs, small claws and pale blue blood. Can you remember what they are called?

This weekend I want you to go on a Spider Hunt. Look around your home in all the dark places and in any holes that you may have. If you can't find any spiders inside look around when you are outside. You might not see a spider but you may see their home. Can you remember what a spider home is called?

In your Home-Wow Book can you draw a picture of what you found. Please only use one page of your Home-Wow Book, per task. Ask your grown-up to write down what you say about your drawing and where you found a Spider. Please can grown-ups also date the page.

Have a great Spider Hunt and don't forget to bring your book back on Tuesday.
