Our PSHCE Programme

What is PSHE in schools?

PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education. The acronym PSHCE is also sometimes used, where the ‘C’ stands for Citizenship.

PSHE is an important area of our curriculum here at Mount Carmel Primary School. We teach PSHE with an aim to develop children’s awareness of themselves, helping them to better communicate their thoughts and feelings. This, alongside our lessons and assemblies on British Values, prepares them for becoming grounded citizens within our society. PSHE lessons deal with real issues which affect children, their families and the community. It provides a safe space for children to discuss issues that are important to them.

At Mount Carmel Primary School, PSHE also focuses on keeping children healthy through different ways such as eating healthy lunches and exercising.

We are committed to the health, safety and well-being of all our children and adults.

PSHE in Early Years

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, PSHE is referred to as personal, social and emotional development. This area of your child's learning is concerned with wellbeing – knowing who you are, where you fit in and feeling good about yourself. It is also about developing respect for others, social competence and a positive disposition to learn.

To prepare children for Key Stage one (KS1):

  • Children will learn to form positive relationships in a setting that supports mutual respect and understanding and that celebrates and acknowledges differences.

  • With adults as guides and role models, your child will learn to develop anti-discriminatory attitudes.
Our aim is that every child leaves here an Ambassador of Christ; a person who will make a powerful, positive change in the world. #Encourage, Challenge and Support.#
