September 2019

Well, our penultimate day was packed with more great activities and little stars overcoming their fears. The day started for most groups with Matrix which was ‘sold’ as quadbike cleaning (with toothbrushes!) before they learned, to their delight, it was, in actual fact, a series of hidden rooms with secret exits to find. They loved it!

Of course, the afternoon has been a flurry of excitement as they’ve all been gearing up for the highlight of the week...the cabin inspection!... sorry, I meant, the disco! It has been so funny watching them all preening themselves and dressing in all their finery, ready to impress, before running up to the disco, and then going nowhere near each other. Hilarious! Hopefully they’ll dance themselves into a state of tiredness and ready-for-bedness...somehow I don’t think so...

Enjoy your last evening of peace!

Well, Ambush absolutely lived up to its brilliant reputation. Great fun and a couple of the children even managed to dress in full-on commando camouflage. Last night was blissfully peaceful with children actually willing ‘lights out’ to come sooner so they could go to sleep. (I did remind them they didn’t need to wait!)

Today’s activities included Zip Wire, Fencing, Challenge Course, Orienteering, Abseiling, jacob’s Ladder and Sensory Trail. Lots of children’s faced their fears and it was wonderful to see them encouraging their friends and helping each other - such kind little souls. This evening is a nice, sedate quiz as they need a good night’s sleep ahead of the hotly anticipated disco night tomorrow!

So, after an excitable first night, we thought this morning we'd be waking the dead at 6.30am.... oh no, the children were dressed and ready to go, grinning from ear to ear like it was Christmas morning! Today's activities included Fencing, Jacob's Ladder, Giant Swing, Quad Biking, Abseiling, Aeroball and the highly anticipated Sensory Trail after which the children came to happily parade their mud-soaked clothing to the teachers. The sun has been shining, the children are all filled with sweets (and healthy meals!) from the tuck shop, and several PGL staff have already commented on how wonderful our children are - real testament to what a lovely group of children they are. They're all currently kitting up for a night's hi-jinks in the woods with a game of 'Ambush' so we'll see which team wins!

As I sit here furiously typing, the children are sitting around a campfire, singing songs and having a whale of a time. The coach and ferry journey, whilst continuously peppered with ‘How far is it?’ ‘Can I eat my lunch?’ ‘Can I go to the toilet?’ went perfectly smoothly and on entering the camp, a coach full of grinning children let out a mighty cheer. They are currently bouncing off the walls and can hardly contain their excitement. Do all enjoy that lovely peaceful cup of tea with your favourite Netflix series this evening...
