Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
At Mount Carmel Primary School, a mainstream setting, we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve their potential. In order to do this many steps are taken to help all pupils through their learning journey. High quality teaching is vital; however, for some children there are occasions when additional support may be needed.
The Inclusion Leader (SENCo) is: Mrs Crouch (inclusion@mountcarmel.ealing.sch.uk)
Children and Families Act 2014
The Code of Practice for SEND children and young people aged 0-25 is outlined in this Act and came into force in September 2014. The government have listened to what parents say their experience of services is like and have put in place a number of things to bring about improvements. One of these is the ‘Local Offer’.
What do I do If I think my child has additional needs?
Firstly, speak to your child's class teacher. They will then let you know if your child is presenting with any difficulties in class, and can explain the provisions already in place to support them. If your child then needs provision which is beyond that of which teachers can give through reasonable adjustments in the classroom then you would book a meeting with Mrs Crouch.
In this meeting a plan would be put in place to monitor intervention and progress over time. If there are continued concerns, then possible referrals will be made. These could be to Speech and Language (SALT), Occupational therapy (OT) or any other relevant agencies.
