Phonics help
In Year 2 we are building on the children's knowledge after their phonics screening check in Year 1. We continue to use ELS (Essential Letters and Sounds) in our daily phonics lessons, now focusing on Phase 5 alternatives.
In Year 2 we now focus on spelling - especially with alternative sounds to different spellings, and alternative spellings to different sounds (for example, the 'ou' in found and the 'ow' in town sounding the same, or the 'c's in cygnet and cake sounding different).
This will mean that they are more confident spellers as they move into Key Stage 2, and further up the school.
In order to help your child with their phonics, please make sure that they practice their spellings homework every day.
